How often should my baby see a doctor in the first year?
In Canada, the standard schedule for well-baby visits is typically at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. These visits are timed to align with critical developmental leaps and the provincial vaccine schedule.
What is the Rourke Baby Record?
It is a comprehensive evidence-based tool used by Canadian healthcare providers to ensure no part of your child’s health is overlooked—from nutrition and safety to physical growth and emotional development.
Are pediatric visits covered by my provincial health card (e.g., OHIP/MSP)?
Yes. Medically necessary visits, well-baby checks, and routine immunizations for children are fully covered by provincial health insurance. Please ensure your child’s health card is updated and present at each visit.
Can you help with childhood behavioural or learning concerns?
Yes. We perform initial screenings for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and learning disabilities. If specialized testing or therapy is required, we coordinate referrals to pediatric psychologists or developmental specialists within the provincial network.
What happens if my child gets sick suddenly?
For sudden illnesses like fevers, ear infections, or rashes, we offer Same-Day Acute Care slots specifically reserved for our pediatric patients to ensure they are seen quickly by a provider who knows their medical history.
What should I bring to my child’s first appointment?
Please bring your child’s provincial health card and their Yellow Immunization Card (or any previous vaccination records). For newborns, please bring any discharge paperwork from the hospital where they were born.
