New Patient Physicals
Your health journey starts with a clear picture.
Whether you’ve just moved to the area or it’s simply been too long since your last check-up, a New Patient Physical is your most important appointment. At Oasis Smile Medical, we don’t just rush you through a clipboard; we take the time to build your clinical foundation, identifying risks early and setting goals for your long-term wellness.

Benefits of a New Patient Physical at Oasis Smile Medical
Establishing Your Baseline
We perform a comprehensive “head-to-toe” evaluation to document your current health status. This data becomes the benchmark we use to measure your progress and detect subtle changes in the years to come.
Personalized Preventative Roadmap
Based on your age, gender, and family history, we create a customized screening schedule. We ensure you are up-to-date on provincial cancer screenings, cardiovascular checks, and immunizations.
A Relationship-First Approach
This visit is as much about communication as it is about medicine. We listen to your concerns, review your medical history in detail, and ensure you feel comfortable with our team as your new healthcare partners.
Who Will Benefit From This Service?
This service is designed for individuals seeking to establish or re-establish their primary healthcare connection. This is ideal for:
New Residents
Individuals who have recently moved and need to transition their medical records to a local Canadian clinic.
The "Health Conscious" Professional
Individuals who haven’t seen a doctor in years and want a professional “tune-up” to ensure no silent issues (like high blood pressure) are developing.
Patients with Family History Concerns
Those with a history of heart disease, cancer, or diabetes who want a proactive, specialist-level screening plan.
Transitioning Youth
Young adults moving from pediatric care to adult medicine who need to establish their own health records.
Seniors
Older adults who require a more frequent and detailed review of their mobility, cognitive health, and chronic disease risk.
About Our New Patient Physicals
What happens during a New Patient Physical?
This is a comprehensive visit that includes a review of your personal and family medical history, a physical examination (vitals, heart, lungs, abdomen, and skin), and a discussion of your mental health and lifestyle habits. We also order "baseline" blood work to check cholesterol, glucose, and organ function.
How long should I set aside for this appointment?
Because we are thorough, a New Patient Physical typically takes 40 to 60 minutes. We want to ensure we have enough time to answer your questions without feeling rushed.
Is this covered by my provincial health card (e.g., OHIP)?
Yes. In Canada, one comprehensive annual physical exam is generally a covered service under your provincial health insurance. Please ensure you bring your valid health card to the clinic.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?
In many cases, yes. We often order blood work that requires an 8-12 hour fast (water only) for the most accurate results. We will confirm these instructions with you when you book your appointment.
Will you request my old medical records?
Yes. With your written consent, we can coordinate the transfer of your records from your previous clinic. This ensures we have your full history, including past surgeries, allergies, and immunization records.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Please bring your provincial health card, a list of all current medications (including vitamins and herbal supplements), and a list of any past major surgeries or chronic diagnoses. If you have a family medical history "cheat sheet," bring that as well!
