Can one doctor see my whole family?
Yes. That is the core of Family Medicine. By seeing multiple members of the same household, we can often identify shared environmental or genetic factors that lead to better preventative care for everyone.
Is Family Medicine covered by my provincial health card?
Yes. Family medicine consultations and routine check-ups are covered by your provincial insurance (such as OHIP). Please ensure all family members have valid health cards ready for their appointments.
How do you handle specialist referrals?
If a concern requires a specialist—such as a cardiologist or dermatologist—we initiate the referral within the provincial system. We provide the specialist with your relevant history and follow up on their findings to integrate their advice into your overall care plan.
What happens if I have an urgent issue?
While Family Medicine is for long-term care, we reserve Same-Day Acute Care slots for our registered patients. This ensures that when an "emergency" arises that isn't life-threatening, you can see a provider who already knows your history.
Can you help with mental health and counselling?
Absolutely. Family physicians are the primary providers of mental health care in Canada. We provide initial assessments, prescribe medications if necessary, and refer to psychologists or community resources for specialized therapy.
What should I bring to our first family appointment?
Please bring health cards for every family member, a list of current medications for each person, and any records of previous major surgeries, hospitalizations, or known allergies.
